150 US Family-Capital and Institutional Allocators Screened for Emerging-Manager Activity

A source-linked screen of 150 US family-capital and institutional allocators. Thirty-three records carry documented Tier 1/2 emerging-manager activity; 117 are clearly labeled mandate or watchlist leads requiring fresh verification. No row implies personal signing authority or an undisclosed cheque.

Who is allocating to emerging managers, and what counts as proof

Emerging-manager allocation is often private and definitions vary. The screen therefore required public professional-role evidence plus a named Fund I to III commitment, first-check or anchor relationship, official emerging-manager program, or an explicit current mandate. Generic venture or private-equity activity did not qualify by itself.

The fixed research window is August 18, 2023 through August 18, 2026. Tier 1 carries the strongest qualifying commitment or program evidence. Tier 2 covers explicit current mandates or one material public-evidence limitation. Tier 3 is a watchlist-grade lead that requires fresh verification and is never used to imply a disclosed cheque or personal approval.

Tier 3Fund-of-funds commitments and customized emerging-manager mandates

A 2025 specialist LP report identifies Neuberger Berman as operating global private-equity and venture fund-of-funds programs with emerging-manager exposure.

Recent activity: current program or mandate activity

Emerging-manager signal: program labeled · fund of funds indirect · unknown

    Focus: venture capital

Caveat: Watchlist/program-signal record: a named in-window qualifying allocation is not established by the cited source. Rupp's exact current responsibility for the emerging-manager platform must be confirmed. Activity evidence should be upgraded to an official named fund or mandate.

Methodology, evidence tiers, and disclosure

Candidates were discovered through allocator websites, official program pages, manager close announcements, annual reports, regulatory records, and reputable institutional reporting. Publication required one unique organization, a current-role source, and qualifying emerging-manager evidence. Pure advisers, placement agents, network-only groups, direct-company-only investors, stale roles, and directory-only records were excluded.

Qualifying evidence can include a named Fund I to III commitment, a first-close or anchor relationship, a target-specific seed or GP-stake investment, an official emerging-manager program with documented portfolio activity, or an explicit current mandate. Generic venture investing, generic manager-selection language, direct-company-only investment, and directory-only records do not qualify as documented activity.

Tier 1, 6 records
A named qualifying commitment, first-check or anchor relationship, or strong official emerging-manager program paired with a current professional role and supported by primary sources.
Tier 2, 27 records
An explicit current emerging-manager mandate, or a qualifying allocation with one meaningful limitation, such as a contingent recommendation, an indirect allocation route, a missing target-specific amount, or a material sourcing caveat.
Tier 3, 117 records
A mandate, program-signal, historical, or watchlist record. Tier 3 records are not counted as documented current allocations and should be re-verified before use.

Every included record has all five of the following:

  • A unique US allocator organization
  • One current named professional and a public role source
  • A separate public activity, program, or mandate source
  • An explicit allocator classification and evidence tier
  • A visible limitations or caveats field

Organizations outside the United States, network-only organizations without an allocating vehicle, and rows without current named professionals were excluded. Institutional entities are never labeled as family offices.

Disclosure

This directory uses public professional information and is provided for research, not investment advice, solicitation, endorsement, or proof that an allocator is accepting pitches. Organization-level evidence does not prove the named professional personally approved a commitment or has unilateral signing authority. Roles, mandates, definitions, and preferences change; verify them directly. No personal contact details, undisclosed ticket sizes, or signing authority were inferred.

The source log and what is in the download

The ZIP holds three files. The CSV is the directory above, one row per record, with the full field set: role and activity sources, dates and their source precision, evidence tier, summary, limitations, emerging-manager qualification, program or fund details, commitment route and status, first-check or seeding signals, source quality, confidence, and review date. The source log is one row per canonical public source URL, linked to the record IDs it supports, with the exact claims it backs. The README is the methodology.

Arrays are encoded as compact JSON inside CSV cells. Files use UTF-8 and RFC 4180 quoting, and any text beginning with a spreadsheet formula character is prefixed with a single quote for safety. Activity dates keep the precision the source supports, and the CSV records that precision alongside the date.

The dataset contains public professional information only. It excludes personal email addresses, personal phone numbers, home addresses, inferred contact details, inferred ticket sizes, and inferred signing authority. An organization's presence does not mean it accepts unsolicited pitches. Re-check both canonical sources before outreach, analysis, or publication, and use official organization channels for corrections.

Frequently asked questions

Who is included in this US emerging-manager allocator list?

The directory screens US single- and multi-family offices, family-capital vehicles, wealth platforms, foundations, endowments, pensions, funds of funds, and other institutional programs. Only 33 records are labeled documented Tier 1/2 activity; the other 117 are visibly separated as Tier 3 mandate or watchlist leads.

What counts as an emerging-manager allocation?

The strongest evidence is a named Fund I to III commitment, a first-check, anchor or seed relationship, or an official program explicitly built for emerging managers. A current explicit mandate can qualify as Tier 2, but generic venture-capital or fund investing does not prove emerging-manager activity.

What do the evidence tiers mean?

Tier 1 pairs a current role with a named qualifying commitment or a strong official emerging-manager program. Tier 2 has an explicit current mandate or a qualifying allocation with one material public-evidence limitation. Tier 3 is a research lead with a classification, authority, or sourcing caveat and should be re-verified before use.

Does this mean every organization is accepting pitches?

No. The directory is research, not a solicitation list or an endorsement. Mandates, pacing, geography, ticket size, and willingness to meet new managers change. Verify fit through the organization's official channels before approaching anyone.

What is in the downloadable file?

The ZIP contains the 150-record CSV, a methodology README, and a semantic source log. It includes only public professional information and does not contain personal email addresses, phone numbers, home addresses, or inferred contact details.
